PRINCESS ANNE, MD, May 26, 2010 – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore will award prizes as part of a competition for high school students enrolled in art classes in Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties. The awards announcement takes place at a reception today from 4-6 p.m. in the Mosely Gallery, located in the Arts and Technology building on the UMES campus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The contest has been a success two years in a row,” said Dr. Anke Van Wagenberg, gallery director, who coordinated UMES’ first high school art competition in 2008. “We strongly encourage participation from high school students in the tri-county area who are taking art classes.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Made possible through the support of the Maryland State Arts Council and the Somerset County Arts Council, the show features work in 2-D, photography, sculpture, sequential art and drawing, Wagenberg said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This year, participating art students will have to be present at the reception in order to receive an award,” Wagenberg said. “The winner in each category will receive $100 in art supplies.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The awards will be presented by Dennis Williams, Princess Anne town commissioner and patron of the arts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The exhibition will be on display Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through June 11. All events in the Mosely Gallery are free and open to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
