{"id":3364,"date":"2010-09-21T09:38:06","date_gmt":"2010-09-21T13:38:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pr\/?p=3364"},"modified":"2010-09-21T09:38:06","modified_gmt":"2010-09-21T13:38:06","slug":"south-african-lecturer-shares-art-knowledge-with-umes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/scm\/south-african-lecturer-shares-art-knowledge-with-umes\/","title":{"rendered":"South African Lecturer Shares Art Knowledge with UMES"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tuesday, September 21, 2010<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PRINCESS ANNE (Sept. 21, 2010) &#8211; South African artist Dr.&nbsp;Nombeko&nbsp;Mpako&nbsp;will host a discussion on &#8220;Contemporary African Arts and Crafts&#8221; on Wed., Sept. 22, in the&nbsp;Ella Fitzgerald Center for the Performing Arts&nbsp;at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mpako&nbsp;is currently a senior lecturer with the Department of Art History, Visual Arts and Musicology at the prestigious University of South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>&#8220;<\/strong>Every line tells a story,&#8221; said&nbsp;Mpako, who presented a slideshow to University of Maryland Eastern Shore students enrolled in &#8220;ARTS 101: Exploration of the Visual Arts&#8221; this week. &#8220;The artist has deliberately chosen to use that line to communicate a story. It&#8217;s not by accident.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In honor of&nbsp;Mpako&#8217;s&nbsp;campus visit this month, the Department of Fine Arts is hosting a mini exhibition entitled &#8220;Reflections on African Diversity,&#8221; which will be on display at the Frederick Douglass Library until Sept. 30.
