Johnson. Shuttle seats will be filled on a first come, first served basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 16, at 11 a.m. at the Holy Christian Missionary Baptist Church at 5110 Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue, N.E., Washington, D.C., 20019.&nbsp; The viewing will begin at 10 a.m.&nbsp; To contact the church, call 202-396-7720.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UMES shuttles will leave the bus circle at the Student Services Center at 6:30 a.m. sharp.&nbsp; Students are required to register online at the Hawk Center Box Office (where registration begins at 9 p.m. tonight) and to sign a Waiver of Liability form in the office of Student Activities prior to riding the bus.&nbsp; Please see Paula Holden, special assistant for student activities, in Student Services Center Suite 2169.&nbsp; For more information, Ms. Holden may be reached at 410-621-3446.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flowers and condolences for the family may be sent to the Holy Christian Missionary Baptist Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Monday, May 11, 5:45 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are nearing the end of another semester; and while graduation is an exciting time, our hearts are deeply saddened by the untimely and tragic death of one of our own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Antwan&nbsp;Robert Johnson, 22, of Washington D.C. was pronounced deceased at the scene of a two-car accident that occurred early Sunday morning, May 10, at the intersection of Dr. William P.&nbsp;Hytche&nbsp;Boulevard and&nbsp;Beechwood&nbsp;Street in Princess Anne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emergency medical responders were dispatched within minutes of the accident, at which time it was determined that Mr. Johnson was deceased.&nbsp; To clarify concerns about the process of handling a motor vehicle fatality, the following sequence of events occurred. &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Immediately upon the determination of the fatality, a motor vehicle fatality investigation ensued.&nbsp; For the motor vehicle investigation, it was required that the scene be protected and the medical examiner notified.&nbsp; Upon the arrival of the medical examiner, a medical examiner s investigation was initiated.&nbsp; Upon completion of the medical examiner&#8217;s investigation, a funeral director was contacted.&nbsp; Upon the arrival of the funeral director, the deceased was released for recovery and transport to the state medical examiner&#8217;s office in Baltimore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around the same time, there was a traffic accident involving UMES students in Salisbury.&nbsp; Three students were transported to the hospital.&nbsp; One student was hospitalized and two others were treated and released.&nbsp; For the hospitalized student, the prognosis for recovery is good. &nbsp;&nbsp;For&nbsp;Antwan&nbsp;Johnson, a candlelight vigil will be held in his memory in the Student Services rotunda on Tuesday, May 12, at 6 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because of the traumatic nature of these events, Counseling Services has extended its hours to 9 p.m. through Thursday, May 14.&nbsp; Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to call 410-651-6449 for counseling support.&nbsp; Administrators and staff are also available in the Student Services Center until 9 p.m. daily through Thursday, May 14.&nbsp; On call counseling services are available and will continue to be available 24 hours a day through the end of the semester.&nbsp; In addition, Residence Life staff will be available in the residence halls<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Monday, May 11, 2009 Wednesday, May 13, 5:55 p.m. Forty-two seats are available for&nbsp;students desiring to attend funeral services for Fallen Hawk Antwan R.
