Anderson<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">First UMES president to complete the civic engagement program<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wednesday, December 11, 2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leadership Maryland announced&nbsp;Tuesday that Dr. Heidi M. Anderson, president of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, has completed the professional development program dedicated to building a better Maryland by harnessing the strength of its local business and community leaders. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anderson, the first UMES president to participate in Leadership Maryland, and colleagues in the Class of 2019 were honored at the program&#8217;s 27<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;annual graduation ceremony Tuesday evening at the Lord Baltimore Hotel. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anderson was one of 50 applicants chosen by committee to take part in Leadership Maryland&#8217;s eight-month hands-on learning program focused on the state&#8217;s most vital social, economic and environmental issues.&nbsp; Anderson was host to the Class of 2019 during a visit to campus that was incorporated into the curriculum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAs this year&#8217;s Leadership Maryland cohort completes its program, their journey as a graduate of our state&#8217;s finest organization of professionals begins,\u201d said Leadership Maryland Board Chairman Dr. Memo F. Diriker &#8217;12, director of BEACON at Salisbury University. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOver the past eight months they have learned about our state, the critical issues it faces, and above all, themselves. On behalf of the Board, I congratulate each of them for completing this defining milestone and I look forward to seeing them apply these lessons to accomplish great things for our state,\u201d Diriker said. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leadership Maryland is open to senior-level executives with significant achievements in either their careers and\/or their communities. Ideal Leadership Maryland members have a desire to learn more about Maryland&#8217;s most critical issues and a personal commitment to be a force for positive change in their organizations, their communities, and their state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>About Leadership Maryland<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Leadership Maryland is a professional development program dedicated to building a better Maryland by harnessing the strength of its local business and community leaders.
