The graduation ceremony will take place May 16 at 10 a.m. on the school\u2019s campus in Princess Anne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are honored to have Gov. Moore bring his message of resilience and achievement to our graduating students,\u201d said UMES President<strong> Heidi M. Anderson<\/strong>. \u201cHis story is about both inspiration and perspiration \u2013 hard work \u2013 and resonates with all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moore, the 63rd governor of the state, is Maryland\u2019s first Black governor in the state\u2019s 246-year history and is just the third African American elected governor in the history of the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moore is a graduate of Valley Forge Military Academy and College, where he received an associate\u2019s degree in 1998, and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
