Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Program in Marine and Estuarine Science<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

June-August<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About:<\/strong> Undergraduates interested in marine and estuarine sciences attend seminars, workshops and field trips, and receive instruction about scientific ethics, library resources for research, experimental design, and data analysis. The internship culminates in a student presentation of their research results. The internship pays a stipend to each student over the course of the summer, and housing and meals are provided. Students must attend the entire 10-week session to receive the stipend.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funding:<\/strong> The program is funded by the National Science Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geoscience Bridge Program<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

June-August<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About:<\/strong> The Geosciences Bridge Program offers a 6-week paid internship for high school students planning to pursue careers in the geosciences. The program includes lectures, field trips, hands-on activities, two for-credit college courses, housing, meals, travel to and from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), and a stipend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funding:<\/strong> The program is funded by the NOAA Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center (LMRCSC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Project SEED (Socially Engaged Entrepreneur Development) Program<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

June-August<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About:<\/strong> UMES and the American Chemical Society (ACS) partnered to offer local, ambitious high school students the opportunity to work in an academic, industrial or government research laboratory for eight weeks during the summer. The program exposes youth to science through learning and discovery, while allowing them to earn income and enjoy nurturing and supportive relationships within the scientific community. If a SEED student then chooses UMES, they are eligible for an ACS Project SEED scholarship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funding:<\/strong> The project is funded in part by the American Chemical Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UMES AFRI-EWD-REEU Summer Internship<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

May-August<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About:<\/strong> This program shows undergraduate students majoring in chemistry, biology, environmental science and technology how their majors can be applied to agriculture and food science. Applicants for the summer program must be full-time, non-UMES undergraduate students. Interns receive a stipend and room and board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Funding:<\/strong> The program is funded by USDA\u2019s National Institute of Food and Agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

USDA-AFRI-EWD-FANE \u2014 ASTEMA \u2014 Advancing STEM in Agriculture<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

About: <\/strong>This paid internship includes a year-long online program and a summer research camp. It is open to high school students interested in STEM applications in agriculture. Participants will paid a $1,000 stipend after completion of a full academic year of online program and a three-week travel camp in July and August. Applications are now open for 2026-27 cohort. The deadline is  Sept. 15, 2026, at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
