She looked to the Small Farm Conference as a follow-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m a beginning farmer with wildflowers, expanding to Christmas trees. The couple purchased 4 open acres, 8 wooded acres and have 14 acres in conservation. They are interested in building sustainable pasture, small farming and gardening for local consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Notable speakers (Tope Balogun of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dodofarmsmd.com\/\">Dodo Farms<\/a> and Michelle Hughes of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngfarmers.org\/\">National Young Farmers Coalition<\/a>), bus tours (<a href=\"https:\/\/baybeeshoney.com\/\">BayBees Honey LLC<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.laytonschance.com\/\">Layton\u2019s Chance Vineyard &amp; Winery<\/a> and two Somerset County small farms) and agricultural vendor exhibits rounded out the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur goal with the conference is developing program content to meet the interest and needs of our farmers,\u201d said Dr. Moses T. Kairo, dean of UMES\u2019 School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences and director of UMES Extension. \u201cWe ask ourselves, \u2018Are we doing our job?\u2019 This year\u2019s 20<sup>th<\/sup> installment of the conference says something.
