Pinto accepted the award virtually on April 1 at the 68<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;Honors Convocation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pinto graduated this past spring (2020) with a bachelor\u2019s in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.umes.edu\/he\/\">human ecology<\/a>&nbsp;with a concentration in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.umes.edu\/HE\/Pages\/Child-Development\/\">child development<\/a>.&nbsp; She is currently pursuing a master\u2019s degree in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.umes.edu\/Education\/Content\/Counselor-Education\/\">counseling education<\/a>&nbsp;at UMES.&nbsp; Her educators describe her as \u201can intelligent, well-rounded and dedicated young woman.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNot only is Gabrielle an exemplary scholar, she has been successful at balancing academic commitments with extracurricular activities and part-time employment at the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.umes.edu\/HE\/Pages\/Child-and-Family-Development-Center\/\">UMES Child and Family Development Center<\/a>&nbsp;as a senior staff student worker,\u201d said Dr. Grace Namwamba, professor and chair of the Department of Human Ecology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGabrielle has a strong work ethic and is very passionate about children,\u201d said Dr. Donna Long, an associate professor and director of UMES\u2019 Child and Family Development Center.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"404\" src=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2024\/01\/Honors-conv-Gabby-Child-Dev-Ctr.3.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9313\" title=\"Gabrielle Pinto-child dev ctr\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2024\/01\/Honors-conv-Gabby-Child-Dev-Ctr.3.jpg 250w, https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2024\/01\/Honors-conv-Gabby-Child-Dev-Ctr.3-186x300.jpg 186w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Pinto also represented UMES and her department on the university\u2019s Imperial Court as Miss Senior and was appointed to the student panel for the Department of Human Ecology\u2019s reaccreditation process in October 2019.&nbsp; For her outstanding GPA and active involvement on and off campus, she was awarded the department\u2019s Savoy Fund for Human Ecology scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGabrielle is a dedicated student that never lets an obstacle defeat her,\u201d said Dr. April Stull, her former academic advisor.&nbsp; \u201cI have watched her metamorphosis from a na\u00efve first-year student to a mature person.&nbsp; I am extremely proud of her and it has been a pleasure guiding her during her academic journey.&nbsp;
