{"id":8265,"date":"2021-10-08T14:59:00","date_gmt":"2021-10-08T18:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/?p=8265"},"modified":"2024-01-09T10:16:09","modified_gmt":"2024-01-09T15:16:09","slug":"registration-is-open-for-umes-2021-agdiscovery-summer-camp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/sans-news-releases\/registration-is-open-for-umes-2021-agdiscovery-summer-camp\/","title":{"rendered":"Registration is open for UMES&#8217; 2021 AgDiscovery summer camp."},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"319\" src=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2021\/10\/AgDIscovery-photo.1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9179\" title=\"AgDiscovery\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2021\/10\/AgDIscovery-photo.1-1.jpg 500w, https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2021\/10\/AgDIscovery-photo.1-1-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>PRINCESS ANNE, MD- (February 2, 2021)-Area middle and high school students currently in grades 8-11 can apply now through March 25 for the 2021 AgDiscovery summer program slated for June 13-26 at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.&nbsp; Campers will reside on campus unless COVID-19 concerns mandate that it shifts to a virtual experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, AgDiscovery is a free opportunity for students to explore agricultural sciences and gain knowledge about related careers, such as wildlife management, veterinary medicine, biotechnology, entomology, food safety, food production, agribusiness and forestry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UMES\u2019 program is in its ninth year and has introduced over 140 students to the diverse careers and opportunities in the field, said Corrie Cotton, a research assistant professor in UMES\u2019 Department of Agriculture, Food and Resource Sciences and one of the organizers for UMES\u2019 annual summer camp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cParticipants learn through a series of hands-on labs, workshops, research projects and field trips,\u201d she said.&nbsp; \u201cThey also have the unique experience of interacting with scientists conducting state-of-the-art research at the UMES Agricultural Experiment Station and at regional research centers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The camp is free, but students must apply to the program by March 25.
