{"id":8202,"date":"2021-10-06T12:26:00","date_gmt":"2021-10-06T16:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/?p=8202"},"modified":"2023-06-23T12:28:37","modified_gmt":"2023-06-23T16:28:37","slug":"area-farmers-can-receive-free-opportunities-through-new-myfarm-initiative-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/sans-news-releases\/area-farmers-can-receive-free-opportunities-through-new-myfarm-initiative-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Area farmers can receive free opportunities through new MyFaRM initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"600\" height=\"154\" src=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2021\/09\/MyFarm-Color-Locked.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1469\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>PRINCESS ANNE, MD- (October 5, 2020)-Registration is now open for MyFaRM, a new&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.umes.edu\/Extension\/\">University of Maryland Eastern Shore Extension<\/a>&nbsp;initiative to deliver risk management education free to area farmers.&nbsp; Mastering Farm Risk Management, for which MyFaRM stands, also includes incentives for a select group of participants to receive free admission to future events hosted by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/small-farms-program\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1890\">UMES\u2019 Small Farm Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cMyFaRM is a series of classes covering each of five areas of risk for farms: production, marketing, finances, human resources and legal risk,\u201d said Nicole Cook, the environmental and agricultural faculty legal specialist at UMES.&nbsp; \u201cThere is an added emphasis in the MyFaRM program on how to use Federal Crop Insurance and private insurance options to sustain and support the growth of small farming operations, particularly those who grow, or plan to grow, specialty crops.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The initiative kicks off at UMES Extension\u2019s 2020 Small Farm Conference November 6 with an introductory class, said Berran Rogers, the coordinator of UMES\u2019 Small Farm Program.&nbsp; A core group of farmers who commit to attending at least eight out of 11 of the classes, including the kickoff class and the financial risk series, will come away with a five-year risk management plan for their farms.
