{"id":7998,"date":"2020-05-18T15:02:00","date_gmt":"2020-05-18T19:02:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/?p=7998"},"modified":"2023-06-22T15:05:43","modified_gmt":"2023-06-22T19:05:43","slug":"umes-hosts-honeybee-field-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/sans-news-releases\/umes-hosts-honeybee-field-day\/","title":{"rendered":"UMES Hosts Honeybee Field Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.umes.edu\/uploadedImages\/_WEBSITES\/SANS\/Content\/Extension_Connections-11_2019\/Honeybee%20Field%20Day%204resaved(1).jpg\" alt=\"Honeybee Field Day 4 edited\" width=\"230\" height=\"307\" title=\"Honeybee Field Day 4 edited\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The University of Maryland Eastern Shore\u2019s Apiary was the site of a Honeybee Field Day October 8, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.&nbsp; More than 40 people enjoyed a welcome message, a complimentary dinner, tour of the UMES Apiary and two workshops.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Topics covered by Maryland State Apiary Inspector Dean Burroughs included the basic concepts of beekeeping, honey production, harvesting and honeybee colony trends on Maryland\u2019s Eastern Shore.&nbsp; Emily Zobel, a UME agent associate, Dorchester County, spoke about the multiple issues causing the decline of honeybee colonies.&nbsp; A honey tasting culminated the evening\u2019s activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Dr. Nelson Escobar, small ruminant specialist\/UMES Extension Program, the purpose of the workshop was to increase the level of awareness among the community and to enhance beekeepers\u2019 knowledge about practices and procedures for rewarding colony survival during the winter.
