Representatives from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ump.ac.za\/\">University of Mpumalanga<\/a> met with UMES administrators, faculty and researchers from the schools of <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/\">agricultural and natural sciences<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sbt\/\">business and technology <\/a>to explore collaborative activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere are many similarities between the two universities in the areas of agriculture, natural sciences, hospitality management and information technology,\u201d said Dr. Moses T. Kairo, dean of UMES\u2019 School of Agricultural and Natural Sciences. \u201cFaculty may find it advantageous to collaborate on research opportunities as well as engage students in experiential learning programs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>UMES President Heidi M. Anderson<\/strong> <em>(at left, on left)<\/em> and <strong>Mpumalanga Vice Chancellor Thoko Mayekiso<\/strong> <em>(at left, on right) <\/em>signed an agreement representing a friendship and pathway to mutually beneficial exchanges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cCollaboration is the way forward to address the challenges the world faces today and in the future,\u201d Anderson said. \u201cThis memorandum of understanding signifies a friendship to stimulate scientific cooperation and strengthen teaching, research and outreach activities to promote development in South Africa, broaden the international experience of UMES students and faculty and promote cross-cultural knowledge and understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0The South African visitors toured the UMES campus along with the <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/psscec\/\">Paul S. Sarbanes Coastal Ecology Center<\/a> near Assateague Island. Departmental visits focused on engineering and aviation sciences; hospitality and tourism management; agriculture, food and resource sciences, human ecology and natural sciences, which align with academic programs at the South African university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cThe University of Mpumalanga places great value on collaboration, and we have identified partnerships as drivers enabling us to achieve our vision as \u2018a leading African university creating opportunities for sustainable development through innovation,\u2019\u201d said Mayekiso.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;A quote by theoretical physicist and Nobel Prize laureate Kenneth G.
