UMES Extension is committed to continuing its mission of providing research-based solutions to the community.&nbsp; The first virtual event happens Thursday, April 30, when its \u201cBe Smart, Drench Smart\u201d workshop, originally scheduled for March 26, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon via Zoom.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWith the increased public health concerns and Governor Hogan\u2019s \u201cstay at home\u201d order, UMES Extension has cancelled or postponed all workshops, training sessions and classes,\u201d said Dr. E. Nelson Escobar, interim associate administrator for UMES Extension.&nbsp; \u201cAs soon as the Governor\u2019s order changes, our normal activities will resume.&nbsp; In the meantime, some classes, webinars and other programs will be available via Zoom, WebEx, Google Hangouts, Twitter, Facebook, etc.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Participants can expect to learn about gastrointestinal parasites that badger sheep and goats, anthelmintic resistance, practices to manage parasite burdens and how to properly use the FAMACHA\u00a9 score card, a tool to identify and monitor parasite burdens. In addition, participants may earn certification by taking a quiz following the webinar and then sending the instructor a cell phone video that shows them doing the procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Escobar, also an assistant professor and small ruminant specialist at UMES, is the instructor for the webinar.&nbsp; His interest in small ruminants began as a graduate student at the University of Maryland, College Park and has expanded through work at UMES and in Texas and Oklahoma with dairy, meat and fiber goats.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"450\" height=\"222\" src=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2021\/11\/Sheep-and-Goats.2.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2380\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2021\/11\/Sheep-and-Goats.2.png 450w, https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2021\/11\/Sheep-and-Goats.2-300x148.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Registration, which ends Thursday, April 30, is $15 per individual.&nbsp; To register or for detailed information, visit:&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/famachatest2020.eventbrite.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&nbsp;famachatest2020.eventbrite.com<\/a>.
