The horticulturist and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.umes.edu\/Extension\/\">University of Maryland Eastern Shore Extension&nbsp;<\/a>specialist has partnered over the past three years with regional agencies to provide free workshops on fruit and vegetable cultivation and is on the road to forming a Veterans Agriculture Association on Delmarva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBeginning farmers who are veterans are learning to produce specialty crops,\u201d Dixit said. &#8220;Not only will it provide fresh food to local people, it also provides a source of income.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"377\" height=\"209\" src=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2022\/05\/Dixit-Veterans-3.2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5324\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2022\/05\/Dixit-Veterans-3.2.jpg 377w, https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2022\/05\/Dixit-Veterans-3.2-300x166.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 377px) 100vw, 377px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Dixit has worked with veterans interested in agricultural enterprises through&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/talmar.org\/\">TALMAR Horticultural Therapy Center in Baltimore<\/a>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youngfarmers.org\/frsan-ne\/\">Farm and Ranch Stress Assistance Network, Northeast<\/a>.&nbsp; His efforts have been met with one of his prot\u00e9g\u00e9\u2019s interest in purchasing a two-acre piece of land around Baltimore to hire other veterans to produce fruits and vegetables for sale.&nbsp;
