The agribusiness management major from Springdale, Maryland, will be making his way toward a job with the U.S. Department of Agriculture\u2019s Food and Nutrition Services in Alexandria, Virginia. His ultimate mission: to make a difference in the nation\u2019s food deserts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;Frazier\u2019s recent internship with the agency\u2019s human resources department, arranged through his association as a USDA 1890 National Scholar and UMES Land-grant Scholar, was a catalyst for the job offer and first step toward achieving his career goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;\u201cWhen I came in as a freshman, I didn\u2019t realize all the opportunities (aside from the obvious financial assistance) that being a land-grant scholar would provide throughout my collegiate career,\u201d Frazier said. His eyes were opened to the possibilities through this along with his extra-curricular experiences, including being a member of the university\u2019s Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the encouragement of mentors, Frazier shifted his interest from business administration to agricultural business, which, he said, expanded his career options.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2024\/05\/TGD-JordanFrazier030524-0400-972x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10077\" width=\"486\" height=\"512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2024\/05\/TGD-JordanFrazier030524-0400-972x1024.jpg 972w, https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2024\/05\/TGD-JordanFrazier030524-0400-285x300.jpg 285w, https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2024\/05\/TGD-JordanFrazier030524-0400-768x809.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2024\/05\/TGD-JordanFrazier030524-0400-1458x1536.jpg 1458w, https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/sans\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/141\/2024\/05\/TGD-JordanFrazier030524-0400-1944x2048.jpg 1944w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 486px) 100vw, 486px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAgriculture is everything from the food you eat to the clothes you put on your body,\u201d he said as UMES\u2019 Mr. MANRRS ambassador in an<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmdt.com\/2023\/11\/umes-breaks-ground-on-new-agriculture-center-push-to-build-up-future-workforce\/\"> interview with a WMDT-TV 47<\/a> during UMES\u2019 Nov. 30 groundbreaking ceremony for the Agricultural Research &amp; Education Center. Speakers from the USDA and Maryland Legislature hit home the importance of agriculture in feeding the growing population and UMES\u2019 role in training and recruiting a diverse future agricultural workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Frazier represents that hoped-for future \u2014 talented young minds from all walks of life championing the nation and world\u2019s food security needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Living in Somerset County, a low-income and low-access census tract, while pursuing his degree called Frazier\u2019s attention to community needs and some of the factors that make a food desert by the USDA\u2019s criteria.
