Description:
This lecture and lab intensive workshop is designed to provide the participant with the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with dissection of fresh (un-embalmed) partial cadaver specimens. The workshop will consist of both lecture and dissection with the focus on neuromusculoskeletal and vascular structures of the thigh, leg, knee, ankle, & subtalar joints. Prosections of the subtalar & midtarsal joints will be available for review. The workshop is designed to promote understanding of the structures which form the anatomical basis of the knee, ankle and subtalar joints & the associated neuromusculoskeletal structures. This will enhance the physical therapists’ examination skills of the knee, ankle, & subtalar joints. The intended audience is physical therapists that practice in a general outpatient orthopedic setting.
Objective:
To improve and expand on the participant’s knowledge of the anatomy and function of neuromusculoskeletal & vascular structures of the leg, knee, ankle, subtalar & midtarsal joints as a basis for physical therapy examination of and intervention for patients with dysfunctions of the knee, ankle, subtalar, & midtarsal joints.
Workshop Highlights:
– Fresh (un-embalmed, surgically flushed) partial cadaver specimens, two participants per limb
– ~60% of the course will be hands-on dissection
– Dissection preceded by lecture and guided by dissection instructions
– Experienced instructors and assistants to support participant’s dissection
– Well-equipped facility, Gross Anatomy Laboratory of the UMES Department of Physical Therapy
– Positive and personal atmosphere, well suited for mastery of information
CEUs:
This course has been approved by the Maryland State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners for 0.7 CEUs.
Workshop Faculty:
Cindy Holder Gill, PT, DScPT, MEd
Dr. Gill has been teaching Gross Anatomy at UMES since 1993. She received her Bachelors in PT from the Medical College of Virginia and Masters in Exercise Physiology from the University of Virginia. She earned her Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy at the University of Maryland Baltimore, School of Medicine She has been on faculty at UMES since 1993. Her major teaching responsibilities include PT and Physician Assistant Gross Anatomy and PT Kinesiology.
Physical Therapy Teaching Assistants
The instructor and workshop participants will be assisted by experienced and dedicated UMES DPT students/teaching assistants.
