{"id":4056,"date":"2012-03-16T15:49:24","date_gmt":"2012-03-16T19:49:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pr\/?p=4056"},"modified":"2021-09-28T15:53:20","modified_gmt":"2021-09-28T19:53:20","slug":"umes-hosts-health-and-wellness-festival-march-28","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pr\/umes-hosts-health-and-wellness-festival-march-28\/","title":{"rendered":"UMES hosts Health and Wellness Festival, March 28"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Friday, March 16, 2012<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Event offers free health screenings<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">PRINCESS ANNE, Md. &#8211; (March 15, 2012)-The University of Maryland Eastern Shore hosts its 14<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;annual Health and Wellness Festival, Wed., March 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Services Center ballroom.&nbsp; The event is free and open to the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Over 50 exhibitors representing community agencies, health organizations, the university and area businesses, will promote healthy living and prevention through exhibits and screenings,&#8221; Lauresa Wigfall, event coordinator and director of UMES&#8217; Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) Prevention Program, said.&nbsp; &#8220;All facets of health and wellness will be represented.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2011 event attracted over 400 members of the community and campus, Janet Mutschler, director of clinical education for UMES&#8217; Department of Physical Therapy, said.&nbsp; &#8220;We hope that people of all ages will take advantage of the essential health information being offered by professionals in our region.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Free screenings include blood pressure, blood glucose, fitness, body composition (BMI), strength, flexibility and posture. Participants can also take part in interactive demonstrations throughout the day.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many health-related areas of the university will take part in the day&#8217;s activities including: the School of Pharmacy and Health Profession&#8217;s departments of physical therapy, pharmacy, physician assistant, exercise science and rehabilitative services; the dietetics-nutrition program in the department of Human Ecology; the UMES Health and Wellness Center; the Charles R. Drew Health Center; and the UMES Professional Golf Management program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event is sponsored by the university&#8217;s ATOD program.
