PRINCESS ANNE, MD – Tyrone D. Taborn (pictured far right) is commencement speaker for the 121st<\/sup> spring commencement ceremony at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Friday, May 16, at 10 a.m. in the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. Some 372 graduates and their families will participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taborn is chairman and chief executive officer of Career Communications Group, Inc., and a member of The National Association of Hispanic Journalists.  A contributing author for Tavis Smiley’s New York Times bestseller, “The Covenant With Black America,” he is a prolific writer, providing national technology columns for newspapers, magazines and websites. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

For the Black Family Week program, which is sponsored by the IBM Corporation; La Familia Technology Awareness Week; and the Native American Technology Awareness Project, Taborn is founder.  He grew up in Los Angeles, Calif., and has roots<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 in both the Latino and Black communities.  A number of awards and memberships have established him in his role as a public servant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was recently honored by the Baltimore Marketing Association as Business Person of the Year and received the Hispanic Engineer of the Year Chairman Award.  He was one of only nine internet and technology leaders honored by Sprint and MOBE IT, which recognize minority leaders in technology; awarded the Visionary Award by Mercedes Benz; and named one of the 50 Most Important African Americans in Technology by the editors of Blackmoney.com and souloftechnology.net, which sponsors the awards to demonstrate the critical role that Blacks play in the growth of cutting edge industries.  Congressman Major Owens presented him with a Congressional Black Caucus Honor as a Pioneer in Publishing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taborn attended college a Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he majored in government.  He held membership in the Senior Honor Society “Quill and Dagger” and was one of 32 academic scholars honored with membership in the prestigious Telluride Association.  In 1978, he was selected the first LBJ Intern in the office of the late Julian C. Dixon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joining Taborn in receiving an honorary doctorate will be Celeste A. Clark (center photo), senior vice president of global nutrition and corporate affairs for the Kellogg Company; and Georges Le Mener (far right photo), recently retired president and chief executive officer of Dallas, Texas-based Accor North America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
