{"id":15586,"date":"2025-09-08T09:43:55","date_gmt":"2025-09-08T13:43:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pr\/?p=15586"},"modified":"2025-09-08T09:43:56","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T13:43:56","slug":"harrington-named-dean-of-school-of-ed-social-sciences-the-arts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pr\/harrington-named-dean-of-school-of-ed-social-sciences-the-arts\/","title":{"rendered":"Harrington named dean of School of Ed., Social Sciences, &amp; the Arts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"336\" height=\"401\" src=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/09\/Chris-Harrington.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1614\" style=\"width:389px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/09\/Chris-Harrington.jpg 336w, https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/09\/Chris-Harrington-251x300.jpg 251w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 336px) 100vw, 336px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following a nationwide search, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore\u2019s School of Social Sciences and the Arts (SESA) has named <strong>Christopher Harrington<\/strong> as its permanent dean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harrington, who served as interim SESA dean during the 2024-25 school year, has served as a dedicated UMES faculty member since 1997 and previously chaired the Department of Fine Arts for 11 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During his time as interim SESA dean, Harrington has worked on developing several initiatives, including a SESA Alumni Advisory Board, the creation of a student advisory committee, and exploratory committees for creating podcasts as well as a university press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As dean, Harrington wants to prioritize the fostering of \u201cinclusive, student-centered learning environments while also supporting faculty excellence.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harrington\u2019s artwork has been exhibited in distinguished national and international venues, including the Hunter Museum of American Art (Chattanooga, Tennessee), the Contemporary Artists Center (North Adams, Massachusetts), and the International Juried Affordable Art Fair (London, England).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has received top honors for his work at the Period Gallery (Omaha, Nebraska) and has presented five solo exhibitions in New York City since 2002. In 2022, Harrington was awarded Best Contemporary Art at the Annual Member Exhibition of the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Maryland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harrington earned a B.A. in psychology from Binghamton University, an M.A. and Ed.M. in art education from Teachers College, Columbia University, and an M.F.A. from the Hoffberger School of Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following a nationwide search, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore\u2019s School of Social Sciences and the Arts (SESA) has named Christopher Harrington as its permanent dean.
