Dr. Brian O. Clemmons was named the new Vice President of Enrollment Management and Student Experience at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He started in the role on June 1.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is proud to announce that Dr. Brian O. Clemmons has been selected as the new Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Experience (EMSE).

The hiring of Clemmons, who most recently served as Bowie State University’s inaugural vice president for Enrollment Management & Student Affairs for the past eight years, follows a comprehensive national search.

Clemmons brings nearly 20 years of higher education experience, with a strong foundation in data-driven enrollment strategy and institutional leadership.

“His results speak for themselves,” said UMES President Heidi M. Anderson. “He has led institutions to record-breaking enrollment milestones, including a first-year class of 1,200 students, enrollment growth to 6,400, a 38% increase in Hispanic student enrollment, and a 35% rise in graduate enrollment over four years.”

Clemmons, who began in the role on June 1, currently serves on two national enrollment organizations and is known for leading high-performing teams through a collaborative, evidence-based approach.

He most recently partnered with his provost to achieve a 93% fall-to-spring retention rate for Spring 2025 – the highest for Bowie State since 2018.

Added Dr. Anderson: “I am confident Dr. Clemmons will build on our momentum and strengthen pathways for student access, success, and completion. As we continue to Soar Above and Beyond, I look forward to the contributions Dr. Clemmons will make to our community.”

Clemmons holds a bachelor’s degree from Duke University, a master’s degree from North Carolina Central University, and a doctorate from the University of New England.
