{"id":1366,"date":"2021-09-16T16:51:37","date_gmt":"2021-09-16T20:51:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pharmacy\/?page_id=1366"},"modified":"2021-09-16T16:51:37","modified_gmt":"2021-09-16T20:51:37","slug":"about-the-university","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pharmacy\/about-the-university\/","title":{"rendered":"About the University"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is a land-grant, historically black college founded in 1886.\u00a0\u00a0 It became a member of the then eleven campus (now thirteen) University of Maryland System, now known as the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usmh.usmd.edu\/usm\/index.html\">University System of Maryland<\/a>\u00a0in 1998. \u00a0 UMES is approved by the state of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.maryland.gov\/\">Maryland<\/a>\u00a0and fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.\u00a0 Please see the accreditation page for information on the accreditation status of the pharmacy program.\u00a0Test<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UMES is located on over 600 acres of land in the town of Princess Anne, a rural area on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.\u00a0 The town dates back to 1733 and has many buildings and landmarks of historic interest.\u00a0 The quiet community environment is excellent for learning, yet is within driving distance (2-3 hrs) of many cultural and recreational facilities of Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Virginia Beach.\u00a0 The state&#8217;s famous seaside resort, Ocean City, is only 45 minutes from the campus.\u00a0 The campus is located 13 miles south of the town of Salisbury, which provides shopping, recreational, and medical facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\u00a0School of Pharmacy is part of the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions.\u00a0 The School of Pharmacy and Health Professions consists of four academic departments: Exercise Science, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant and Rehabilitation Services. Undergraduate programs include Exercise Science, Physician Assistant and Rehabilitation Services.\u00a0 Graduate programs include the master\u2019s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), and the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.). Students are actively involved with faculty initiatives to improve the health and well-being of the community through health education\/promotion.
