{"id":2195,"date":"2024-06-30T11:13:25","date_gmt":"2024-06-30T15:13:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pa\/?page_id=2195"},"modified":"2026-07-11T22:41:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-12T02:41:14","slug":"professional-citations-and-probation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pa\/professional-citations-and-probation\/","title":{"rendered":"Professional Citations and Probation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Professional Citations and Probation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the course of Program progression, a student may not meet the professional standards of the program resulting from violations with professionalism involving the code of conduct, e-professionalism, academic integrity, attendance, professional attire, and\/or other non-academic areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Program Director, Didactic or Clinical Education Director, and the student\u2019s faculty advisor routinely monitor student professionalism. Should a student not meet standards set for professionalism, the following will occur:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The student will be issued a warning within five (5) business days of the incident by the Program Faculty, DED, CED, Clinical Coordinator, or Program Director using the unprofessional behavior warning form. All warnings must be reported to the DED or CED and the faculty advisor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The warning will be placed in the student\u2019s file.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the student continues with the same or similar unprofessional behavior the Program Faculty, DED, CED, Clinical Coordinator, or Program Director will refer the student to the PPC and issue an unprofessional citation using the Unprofessional Citation Form within ten (10) business days of the incident.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The PPC will meet with the student and provide recommendations regarding the student\u2019s professional status, including:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Notifying student of unprofessional citation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Warning of potential professional probation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identifying areas for improvement with professionalism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Resources or tips for improvement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the student continues to violate the professionalism policy and has subsequent similar or same professional infractions, the student, Program Faculty, DED, CED, or Program Director will refer the student to the PPC for recommendation for professional probation within ten (10) business days of the incident.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Program Director reviews the PPC\u2019s recommendations and issues a formal letter of notification\/professional contract to the student outlining:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PPC\u2019s recommendation making adjustments as necessary<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remediation plans<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Requirements for probation to avoid dismissal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Timeline for the student to meet the assigned requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Serious infractions deemed by program will be brought to PPC may result in dismissal; skip to a citation or probation.\u00a0 Referrals, reviews, and outcomes are addressed in a timely manner, documented, and secured in the student file and with the Office of Student Conduct Affairs. PA students and other unauthorized persons will not have access to the student\u2019s file. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professional probation may result in forfeiture of certain student opportunities or privileges, including but not limited to ineligibility for leadership roles within the program, ineligibility for awards or honors, ineligibility for department scholarships, ineligibility for letters of recommendation outside of enrollment verification, potential restriction from program or UMESPASS celebratory events, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students that receive two (2) professional citations during the didactic or clinical year will be automatically put on Professional Probation.&nbsp; Students on Professional Probation will be followed continuously until the end of the semester following the Professional Probation status. Students will be monitored via a Professionalism Improvement\/Remediation Plan and will be required to check in with their advisors as outlined in the plan. Students on professional probation in the final semester of the Program will not be cleared for graduation and thus, graduation will be delayed. Students who do not return to good professional standing by the end of the second semester following being placed on Professional Probation, not including the winter semester, will be dismissed from the Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Professional Probation Status: Conditions for Program Progression<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students on probationary status are required to meet the requirements designated by the PPC to continue program progression. These requirements (or conditions) are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Complete and submit the attestation and acknowledgement issued by the Program Director regarding the change in professional status.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meet the specified conditions or actions outlined by the PPC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain the minimum performance requirements designated by the PPC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete, sign, and adhere to his\/her created Professional Improvement Plan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sign and adhere to the Professional Contract<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Meet with the DED or CED within ten (10) business days of professional probation status notification<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students on professional probation status are reviewed by the PPC, at minimum, one (1) time per semester and must frequently meet with their advisors. Advisement frequency determined by the advisor based upon student need.&nbsp; Students who do not meet these conditional requirements, or who have an additional occurrence of professional violations following the change in status to professional probation may continue professional probation, decelerate or may be dismissed from the Program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Professional Citations and Probation Over the course of Program progression, a student may not meet the professional standards of the program resulting from violations with professionalism involving the code of conduct, e-professionalism, academic integrity, attendance, professional attire, and\/or other non-academic areas.
