{"id":1392,"date":"2021-09-28T10:44:46","date_gmt":"2021-09-28T14:44:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pa\/?page_id=1392"},"modified":"2024-06-23T14:05:58","modified_gmt":"2024-06-23T18:05:58","slug":"student-learning-outcomes","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/pa\/student-learning-outcomes\/","title":{"rendered":"Competencies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">UMES PA Program Competencies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Upon completion of the UMES PA program, graduates will demonstrate competence in the following domains:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Medical Knowledge\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Recognize normal and abnormal health states across all organ systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discern among acute, chronic, and emerging disease states across the lifespan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply principles of basic and clinical science to identify, diagnose, and provide patient care to healthy and ill patients.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clinical Reasoning and Problem-Solving\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Formulate a most likely diagnosis and differential diagnoses based on an appropriate history, and physical examination for a variety of acute, chronic, and emergent medical conditions for patients across the lifespan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recommend appropriate diagnostic laboratory and imaging studies relevant to the history and physical and provide or obtain interpretations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop appropriate treatment plans based on the clinical assessment and findings that include pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clinical and Technical Skills\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Demonstrate ability to obtain a medical history, perform a physical examination, and document patient information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Perform diagnostic and routine therapeutic procedures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implement appropriate strategies for disease prevention and health care maintenance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Demonstrate ability to provide appropriate patient education by utilizing evidence-based &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;
