Live music, food, local vendors, intricate crafts, lush boutiques, and more! Come out and meet our neighbors in Princess Anne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit the brand new Hawks Corner at 11763 Somerset Avenue! <\/a>It’s an easy 6-minute walk down Hytche Blvd!<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

On campus at the SSC Theater & Ballroom<\/em><\/summary>

1:00 – 8:00 PM <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

12:00: All are welcome to join the 2022 Armwood Walk of Remembrance. <\/a>Learn about George Armwood and the experience of terrorism and lynching in Princess Anne in 1933, in this documentary . <\/a>To join the Walk of Remembrance, meet Dr. Michael Lane at NOON at the red brick UMES entrance facing Hawk’s Landing at the train tracks. Wear comfortable walking shoes and black\/muted clothing for this somber event. Please bring bottled water — the walk is about 2 miles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1:00 – 5:00: Head to the SSC Theater for <\/strong>DESSERTS and our MEDIA & INNOVATION SHOWCASE <\/strong><\/a> <\/strong> It’s NATIONAL DESSERT DAY. Relax and rejuvenate from a hard week of studying with delicious baked goods. While you’re there, pop into the ballroom for a look at the latest innovations from UMES students and faculty. HAWK MEDIA will be there — see them LIVE and in action. JUST ADDED: TRIVIA POP-UP! <\/em>There will be SWAG!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1:00 – 2:00: The Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation <\/a>mini entrepreneur workshop<\/strong> UMES’ new Center is the place for start-ups. If you’ve got an idea for a business, bring it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2:15-3:00: Is there Burn-Out from Social Justice? <\/a> <\/strong> Dr. Marshall Stevenson (Dean of SESA) on how we’re all feeling about the progress (and backlash) of Social Justice on campus and off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3:00-4:30: Author Jerry Mikorenda<\/strong> | America’s First Freedom Rider<\/em><\/strong><\/a> <\/strong> Did you know that a century before Rosa Parks and the 13 Freedom Riders of 1961<\/a>, there was a woman in 1854 who refused to step off a horsecar and as a result, was assaulted by the conductor and a NYC policeman? Hear about her lawsuit and her defense attorney who would go on to become a US President!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5:00 – 7:00: LIVE! with Amber Eggers <\/a>Dr. Dana Little talks to Amber about the US prison system. Have a question for Amber? There will be a Q&A!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

10:00-4:00: <\/strong>Princess Anne Craft Fair, street vendors, food trucks, live musicians and more! Pop in to Hawk’s Corner right on Somerset Ave for refreshments throughout the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

11:00-1:00: Ask Me Anything\u200b  <\/strong>Amber visits again, this time to talk behind-the-scenes about what it takes to be on or produce a reality show. A perfect venue for students interested in a career in media (and faculty interested in celebrity studies)!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1:00-3:00: Pop-Up Podcast<\/strong> Join the UMES cast of Afrofuturism — DEML’s newest interdisciplinary course. Podcasters talk to students talk about afrofuturizing <\/em>their HBCU Experience. What is it? What could <\/em>it be?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3:00-4:00: <\/strong>Brad Hudson from the Department of Fine Arts talks about his work in sequential arts.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/details><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
