<\/em>Hampton University<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reese Register graduated from Hampton University on May 12, 2024 with a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Marine and Environmental Science. Her research focused on anthropogenic effects on aquatic ecosystems. Her goal was to practice ecosystem modeling to use technology to predict the conditions of a body of water affected by coal burning. The information and data she gathered will be shared with Hampton University and the community to help them improve their relationship with the Hampton River and produce better stewards of the environment. With a model displaying past, present, and future conditions of the Hampton River, scientists and researchers can better combat ecosystem challenges in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reese is passionate about combating complex environmental science and justice issues specifically impacting Black and Brown communities. In the Fall of 2024, she goes to Senegal, as a Peace Corps volunteer. For the next two years, she will serve as an Environmental and Forestry agent working with the Senegalese government, farmers, and fishers to improve their local economy. She will also create and lead an outdoor recreational group and act as a community leader, responsible for educating locals about climate change, its effects, and how they can help mediate them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
