Lucia Ramirez-Joseph grew up on the island of Puerto Rico but moved to North Carolina to pursue higher education. At The University of North Carolina at Greensboro, she received her B.S. degree in Biology in May 2022. At UNCG, she studied the effects of urbanization on freshwater fish. Lucia joined the LMRCSC program in September 2022 as a master\u2019s student at Hampton University. Lucia worked alongside advisor Dr. Joey Reustle, where her research focused on oyster reef restoration along the Hampton River area. She graduated from HU on May 12, 2024, with a Masters Degree in Biology with concentration in Marine and Environmental Sciences. Post graduation, she spent the summer as a research assistant at the Plum Island Long Term Ecological Research Station in Massachusetts. In Fall of 2024, she moves on to the Ph.D. program at University of Georgia’s Marine Sciences Department, under the advisement of Dr. Jimmy Nelson. Lucia plans to study ways in which the interaction between predators and their environment has shifted with increasing urbanization and climate change<\/p>\n\n\n\n
