Josette McLean

NOAA-EPP LMRCSC Master’s Graduate
M.S., Marine & Environmental Science
Hampton University

Josette McLean graduated from Hampton University in May 2021 with a master’s degree in Biology with a concentration in Environmental Science. She was advised by Dr. Eric Lewallen, and her research focuses on assessing the feeding ecology and prey preference of Pacific lamprey using molecular techniques. The purpose of this research was to better understand how Pacific lamprey holistically impact marine ecosystems and commercial fisheries. Ms. McLean is originally from Massachusetts, but she has lived in Trinidad and Tobago for most of her life. In 2019, she attained a B.Sc in Marine, Wildlife & Conservation Biology from St. George’s University in Grenada.

Ms. McLean is now pursuing her Ph.D. from Duke University, located in Durham, North Carolina.

NERTO Project Title: Assessing the feeding ecology and prey preferences of Pacific lamprey
