Raul Flamenco earned a B.S. in Environmental Biology from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona in 2020. He then earned an M.S. in Natural Resources from the University of Connecticut in 2023. In 2025, he began pursuing a Ph.D. in the Marine, Estuarine, and Environmental Science program at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science with Dr. Ryan Woodland and Dr. Carys Mitchelmore. His dissertation will involve better understanding how seasonal hypoxia influences fish habitat shifts and subsequent contaminant exposure, which falls under NOAA’s mission to understand the effects of changes of physical parameters on living marine resources.
