The Stacks are located on the second floor and include the following collections:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>General Collection<\/strong> \u2013 Includes approximately 130,000 volumes arranged according to the Library of Congress call numbers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Black Collection<\/strong> \u2013 Contains fiction and non-fiction books pertaining to African Americans and Africans.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Juvenile Collection<\/strong> \u2013 Shelved directly behind the Black Collection, this fiction and non-fiction collection is primarily for those who work with children and need material written for young readers\u2019 interest and reading level. These are not generally sources of first-hand information (primary sources), nor do they typically contain original research material.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Leisure Reading Collection<\/strong> \u2013 Contains about 200 fiction titles that have been donated by the librarians of the Frederick Douglass Library and include mostly contemporary authors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color\"><strong>Circulation Department Services<\/strong>:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Circulation Inquiries<\/strong> &#8211; Staff in the Circulation Department can be reached during regular library hours in following ways:<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table aligncenter\"><table><thead><tr><th class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">In Person<\/th><th class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">By Phone<\/th><th class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">Email<\/th><th class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">Library Card<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">Circulation\/Reference Desk<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">(410) 651-7691<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">fdlcirculation@umes.edu<\/td><td class=\"has-text-align-center\" data-align=\"center\">Valid HawkCard ID<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Checkouts and Returns<\/strong> &#8211; All circulating materials can be checked out at the Circulation Desk on the first floor. They can be returned at the desk or in the book drops located outside the front and back entrances of the library.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Borrowing Privileges<\/strong> &#8211;\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>UMES students: Your HawkCard serves as your library card. You must register your card by submitting a <a href=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/fdl\/borrower-registration-form\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/fdl\/borrower-registration-form\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New Borrower Registration Form<\/a>. Once registered, you will be able to checkout materials and access digital resources with your HawkCard (the 14-digit barcode). <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>University System of Maryland &amp; Affiliated Institutions (USMAI) students: You may borrow circulating materials with a valid ID from your respective campus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Special Borrowing Privileges: Inquire at the Circulation Desk if you are not a UMES or USMAI student.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Stacks and Fines<\/strong> &#8211; This department is responsible for the retrieval, re-shelving and management of the library\u2019s circulating collections. It also bills for late returns, lost items and recalls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Course Reserves<\/strong> \u2013 Reserve materials are available electronically via the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/stg15.umes.edu\/fdl\/cdlapp\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Controlled Digital Lending<\/a> link. Login with your UMES network credentials, click \u201cView\u201d to read the resource and \u201cReturn Early\u201d when done. This service allows you to take advantage of the millions of items available at other libraries for your research. Requests can be made for books, periodical articles, dissertations, videos and reports.
