Below are two quick guides providing citation examples from the latest edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA). The library also provides access to RefWorks, an online citation management tool, that allows you to import citations from databases and websites and automatically create bibliographies (be sure to set the output style to APA, 7th edition).

Academic Search Ultimate (EBSCO) – This multi-disciplinary database provides information to support most academic disciplines and subjects. Includes full-text for peer-reviewed journals, magazines, newspapers and books. Coverage: 1965 – current

African American Studies Center (Oxford) – This reference source on African American Studies provides full-text access to 20,000 articles by top scholars in the field. Core content includes the Encyclopedia of African American History 1619-1895, the 2nd edition of Black Women in America and the African American National Biography.

Baltimore Afro-American (1893-1988) (ProQuest Historical Newspapers) – This database provides full-text historical coverage for The Baltimore Afro-American newspaper, also known as The Afro or Afro News.

Biography in Context (Gale) – This comprehensive source provides full-text biographical information on more than 150,000 people throughout history and across all subject areas. 

Business Source Complete (EBSCO) – This source is the world’s definitive scholarly database, providing full-text coverage of hundreds of peer-reviewed journals and publications covering all aspects of business. Subject areas include marketing management, MIS, POM, accounting, finance, economics, international business and more. Non-journal content includes financial data, case studies, investment research reports, market research reports, country reports, company profiles and SWOT analysis. Education Database (ProQuest) – This database includes over 1,000 full-text journals and 18,000 dissertations supporting research on the theory and practice of education. It supports the study and application of education across all levels of education, including early childhood education, primary and secondary education, and higher education. Coverage: 1988 – current

GreenFILE (EBSCO) –This database is a collection of scholarly, government and general-interest titles. Content includes the environmental effects of individuals, corporations and local/national governments and how to minimize these effects. Topics include global climate change, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling and more.

Health Source: Consumer Edition (EBSCO) – This full-text database of consumer health information provides access to consumer health magazines and reference books. It also provides searching for health pamphlets and patient education fact sheets. This collection also includes Clinical Pharmacology, which provides up-to-date, concise and clinically-relevant drug monographs for all U.S. prescription drugs, herbal and nutritional supplements, over-the-counter products and new drugs. Subjects covered include fitness, nutrition, diabetes, aging, women’s health, children’s health and more. Coverage: 1985 – current

Hospitality & Tourism Complete (EBSCO) – This full-text database covers scholarly research and industry news relating to all areas of hospitality and tourism, including hospitality law, market trends, food and beverage management and hotel management. This collection contains more than 800,000 records, with coverage dating back to 1965. Full-text is available for more than 490 publications, including periodicals, company and country reports, books and newspapers. 

JSTOR – An electronic archive of journals in the following areas: Arts & Sciences, Business, Ecology & Botany, Hebrew Journals, Ireland, Jewish Studies, Life Sciences and some Public Health. Also provides access to primary source collections.

Literature Online (LION) (ProQuest) – This database contains more than 350,000 works of poetry, prose and drama from the 8th century to the present in the English language. It is an assembly of primary works, re-keyed from first editions or scholarly editions, written by the most influential and studied authors, as well as works of lesser known literary figures. Search for literary criticism, primary text, author pages or reference works. Includes full-text scholarly journals covering all aspects of literary studies and the literary index, the Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature (ABELL), created by the Modern Humanities Research Association (MHRA). 

MAS Ultra: School Edition (EBSCO) – This full-text database provides coverage to over 500 popular, general interest and current events publications, as well as 250 reference books, nearly 100,000 biographies, over 70,000 primary source documents, and an image collection of 110,000 photos, maps and flags. 

MasterFILE Premier (EBSCO) – This full-text database provides coverage to nearly 2,000 general periodicals, reference books and primary source documents. It also includes an extensive image collection containing photos, maps and flags.

MEDLINE (ProQuest) – The database contains a broad range of medical topics relating to research, clinical practice, administration, policy issues, and health care services. MEDLINE® is a bibliographic database produced by the U.S. National Library of Medicine. It contains millions of citations, derived from thousands of biomedical and life science journals, and indexed with Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) from the NLM controlled vocabulary. Annual input now exceeds 700,000 citations. Coverage: 1946 – current  

New York Times (1999-Current) (ProQuest) – This database provides indexing, abstracts and full-text for the New York Times, New York Times Book Review and New York Times Magazine. It is a newspaper of record. Coverage: 1/1/99 – current. 

Nexis Uni (Lexis Nexis)– Formerly Lexis Nexis Academic, this database contains news, legal cases, law reviews, company information and many other business, law and news publications. Includes over 15,000 full-text sources. Content includes New York Times, U.S. Supreme Court decisions, company profiles, SEC filings and more.

Opposing Viewpoints (Gale) – This database draws on the acclaimed social issues series published by Greenhaven Press, as well as core reference content from other Gale and Macmillan Reference USA sources to provide pro/con analysis on social issues. Access viewpoint articles, topic overviews, statistics, primary documents, links to websites and full-text magazine and newspaper articles. 

PrepSTEP for Colleges & Universities (EBSCO Learning Express) – This online platform provides test preparation and skill building tutorials for academic success in college. Tutorials include core skills in English, math, science, computer science, as well as planning and organizational skills necessary for college. Graduate admissions practice tests are included for the GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT and more. This platform also contains career preparation information. To begin, users must register for an account (instructions are provided).

Primary Search (EBSCO) – This database contains full-text for more than 50 popular, elementary school magazines. Full-text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Also contains full-text for over 100 student pamphlets. Additionally, Primary Search includes the Encyclopedia of Animal, and features the Funk & Wagnall’s New Encyclopedia, which provides students with easy-to-read encyclopedic entries written specifically for children. This resource also provides the American Heritage Children’s Dictionary(3rd Edition from Houghton Mifflin) and an Image Collection of 91,000 photos, maps and flags.

Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection (EBSCO) – This resource is a comprehensive database with nearly 470 full-text titles. It covers information concerning topics in emotional and behavioral characteristics, psychiatry and psychology, mental processes, anthropology, and observational and experimental methods. 

PsycINFO (EBSCO) – This source is the most comprehensive index in psychology and related fields, with more than 1.7 million citations and abstracts of journal articles, book chapters and books, technical reports and dissertations. Its holdings include material from 1,700 periodicals in over 30 languages. Coverage: 1887 – current

SAGE Premier Journals (SAGE Publishing) – This web database provides full-text access to more than 650 peer-reviewed journals, including high-impact research and international titles on behalf of over 500 scholarly and professional societies. Coverage includes human ecology and related disciples, like psychology and sociology. Search this database by topic or browse by journal title. SAGE journal titles include:

Social Work Abstracts (EBSCO) – This database is produced by the National Association of Social Workers (NAWS) and provides abstracts and indexing for journals dealing with all aspects of the social work field, including theory and practice, areas of service and social issues and problems.  

SocINDEX with Full Text (EBSCO) – This is a full-text research database covering sociology and related disciplines, including social work, gender studies, criminal justice, social psychology, racial studies and religion. It provides access to over 900 full-text peer-reviewed journals and abstracts for core coverage journals dating back to 1895. It also includes extensive indexing for books, monographs, conference papers and other sources.

ArticleFirst (OCLC) – OCLC index of articles from the contents pages of over 12,000 journals.

Dissertations & Theses Global (ProQuest) – This database is the authoritative source for information about doctoral dissertations and master’s theses. It represents the works of authors from over 1,000 graduate schools and universities. Full-text is available from 1997 to the present. Coverage:1861 – current 

Ebook Central (ProQuest) – This database is a collection of thousands of full-text online books on a broad range of subjects in the humanities, natural and physical sciences and the social sciences.

Ebook Collection (EBSCO) – Formerly NetLibrary, this collection of ebooks covers topics chosen by the University of Maryland Libraries.

Ebook Comprehensive Academic Collection (EBSCO) – This multidisciplinary collection includes over 200,000 ebook titles covering a large selection of academic subjects and features ebooks from leading publishers and university presses.

Ebooks (OCLC) – This online catalog contains all the electronic books cataloged by OCLC members. 

PapersFirst (OCLC) – This index contains papers presented at conferences worldwide. Over 2,380,000 records. Coverage: 1993 – current 

ProceedingsFirst (OCLC) – This resource is an index of worldwide conference proceedings with over 74,000 records. Each record contains a list of the papers presented at the conference. Coverage: 1993 – current 

WorldCat (OCLC) – WorldCat is the world’s most comprehensive database of information about library collections. Includes books, journals and all other types of media.
