Produce Safety Alliance

According to U.S. food safety regulations, businesses involved in food handling, processing, manufacturing, or holding are obligated to instruct their personnel on food safety and food hygiene. The FSMA PCR necessitates that a food business employs a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual who has successfully completed training recognized by the FDA in the development and application of risk-based preventive controls or who is qualified through job experience to develop and apply a food safety system.

  • A person may become a PCQI by attending a standardized certification course developed by the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance.
  • The certification does NOT have an expiration date.
  • Live online courses are offered several times a year.

Sign up early because seats are limited and classes fill up quickly.

Free Produce Safety Alliance courses are being offered by the MDA, UMD, UME, ALEI and UMES Extension to help you better understand and meet the requirements of the federal Food Safety Modernization Act Produce Safety Rule (FSMA PSR) if you are required to comply.

Courses are two full days live and online.
