The Laboratory Database serves as the University’s centralized inventory of laboratory spaces and key operational information. It is a living document that is continuously maintained to reflect the University’s evolving laboratory environment. Maintaining an up-to-date Laboratory Database enables the University to better support risk assessments, emergency response, inspections, regulatory reporting, and long-term planning while ensuring laboratory information remains reliable for faculty, staff, students, and campus stakeholders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The database is managed and maintained by EHS. It is reviewed and updated at least annually and is also revised whenever a laboratory is established, relocated, repurposed, or decommissioned. Departments are expected to notify Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) of changes that may affect laboratory records to help ensure the information remains accurate and current.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Access to the database is provided on a need-to-know basis to support laboratory operations, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, facility planning, and institutional decision-making. Access may be granted to authorized personnel whose responsibilities require the information, including Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), laboratory principal investigators (PIs), laboratory managers, department chairs, deans, directors, emergency response personnel, and other University administrators with operational oversight responsibilities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
User access is granted by EHS approval following UMES IT security standards and protocols. Users are expected to protect the confidentiality and integrity of the information and use the database solely for legitimate University business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
