{"id":1360,"date":"2021-08-09T17:55:28","date_gmt":"2021-08-09T21:55:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/counselingservices\/?page_id=1360"},"modified":"2021-08-09T17:55:32","modified_gmt":"2021-08-09T21:55:32","slug":"confidentiality","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/counselingservices\/confidentiality\/","title":{"rendered":"Confidentiality"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All records are confidential.\u00a0 Your records are NOT part of your academic or administrative records.\u00a0 Your records and personal history are available to no one including parents, family, police, employers, faculty, or administrators unless you provide written consent.\u00a0 No information about your counseling will be released to anyone without your authorization except under the following circumstances:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If referred by someone else, we will confirm attendance at your first session for the referral source.\u00a0 No further information will be provided to them without your written permission.<\/li><li>Information released to other professionals involved in treatment.\u00a0 Most commonly this would be to other members of the counseling staff at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, our psychiatric consultant (if involved in your treatment), or a Student Health Center physician or director (if assisting in managing your treatment).<\/li><li>If you are under 18 years of age, your parents or legal guardian (s) may have access to your records and may authorize their release to other parties.<\/li><li>If you are determined to be in imminent danger of harming yourself or someone else.<\/li><li>If you disclose abuse or neglect of children, the elderly, or disabled persons.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Counseling Records<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Counseling files are not part of academic records and no one has access to them except the staff of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Counseling Services.\u00a0 Upon written request, we will provide a copy of your treatment summary and or other pertinent portions of your record to another licensed mental health care provider or physician of your choice.\u00a0 If you request release of information to any other individual, we will request a written release and may request personal contact with you.
