Spring 2021 Commencement Ceremony
Thanks to your commitment to academic excellence, safety and community, UMES has been able to accomplish what few thought was possible just a few months ago – have a successful in-person academic semester. Although COVID-19 continues to impact various communities around the world in unprecedented ways, here at UMES, we have been able to come together to demonstrate our grit, innovation, and unity. Due to these efforts, we are proud to be in a position to not only celebrate you – our incredible Spring 2021 graduates for your momentous achievements, but do so in-person.
In accordance with Maryland Governor’s Executive Order, all commencement ceremonies will adhere to the safety guideline to include the utilization of masks, social distancing, and limiting in-person indoor gatherings to half capacity.
In addition, all eligible candidates who wish to engage in their commencement ceremony, will be required to participate in our dedicated free COVID-19 testing clinic on Thursday, May 13th, 2021. This test date is designed specifically for individuals who will take part in any of the commencement activities on Friday, May 14th, 2021. Candidates who elect not to take part in our free testing clinic, must show proof of a negative test result taken between 5/11 – 5/13. All results must be submitted to the Charles Drew Health Center by Thursday, May 13th, 2021 to be eligible
Each graduation candidate will be eligible for 2 Guest tickets. Participating guests must be identified ahead of time, and they will be required to show proof of a negative test result prior to tickets being released. Please note, all guests will be subject to symptom screening upon arrival to campus. More information can be found on our Frequently Asked Questions section of the commencement website.
Please be advised, individuals without a ticket or displaying symptoms of COVID-19 on the day of commencement will not be allowed entry. However, please know if you are unable to view commencement in person, you will have the opportunity to view the ceremony remotely via live stream.
