The goal of the activities of the international students is to promote cross-cultural awareness and the value of diversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The major activities are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"#flags\">Flags of Nations\u2019 Parades<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#festivals\">Ethnic Festivals<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#guest\">Guest <\/a><a href=\"#speakers\">Speakers<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#troupe\">Supporting Cultural Troop Performances<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#represented\">Show cases of countries being represented on campus<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"#activities\">International Student Clubs\u2019 Activities and Shows<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wwwcp.umes.edu\/cie\/hispanic-heritage-month\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"1365\">Hispanic Heritage Month<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ec5fff7be0340078b7575b8e0ed685da\" style=\"color:#0c629f\"><strong>International Student Networking Events <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"flags\"><strong>Flags of Nations\u2019 Parades:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This activity provides opportunity for International Students to utilize individual respective country flags for parades at the University\u2019s Commencements, Founders\u2019 Day Convocations and other special occasions. The International Education Week is a joint initiative of the U.S. Departments of Education and State whereby the highlights of benefits and value of a high quality education and study abroad are celebrated.&nbsp; The UMES participates in this celebration with Ethnic Festival, organized by the International Students who have the opportunity to prepare authentic foods from their respective countries for sampling by the community, show case their cultural attires by wearing and modeling in them and provide tables of cultural exhibits to represent their respective countries.&nbsp; Additionally, cultural dancing that reflects respective countries is also demonstrated.
