Creating A Student Profile In Handshake

Dear University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks:

We are excited to offer you a premier college career recruiting network system of the future. This system was built to transform the recruiting experience for college students, while assisting students with identifying employment and/or internships related to their major. This is implemented by connecting students and University alumni to a comprehensive national network of employers, all built on a fast, scalable, mobile infrastructure. Handshake’s network gives students access to more career opportunities and insights, provides employers with more comprehensive and efficient access to talent, and provides colleges more tools to drive student engagement and increase student employment.  All students must complete a Handshake Profile.

When you optimize your Handshake profile, it means making your profile work for you! When you add relevant and important details about you and your career interests two things happen:

  1. Handshake will recommend jobs, internships, and events based on your career interests and activity.
  2. Employers can find you.

Handshake does most of the work for you! But first you have to do some work up front.

A complete profile allows you to present a complete picture of who you are as a student and professional.

Make Sure to Complete Your Profile

A complete profile includes:

  • Resume
  • Career Interests
  • Graduation Date
  • Experiences
  • Organizations
  • Skills
  • Photo highly suggested

The Quickest Way to Complete Your Profile

Use the resume auto-upload feature to pull information directly from your resume. Review the extracted information and confirm that it is accurate and correctly formatted. Finally, select the option to make it public to employers. You can return your profile to the private setting at any time. Just remember, employers can’t find you unless your profile is public!

*Remember students with a full profile are 5 times as likely to be messaged by employers.
