About the Department<\/strong><\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Department of Business, Management and Accounting is an AACSB-accredited program focusing on four areas of study: Accounting, Business Administration, Finance and Marketing. Our diverse faculty equip students with the tools for success in a small class setting where students are encouraged to become thinkers, advocates, innovators and leaders. UMES is an HBCU nestled in the quiet town of Princess Anne, which is located within a few hours of major cities such as Baltimore, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia. Students have the opportunity to expand their horizons through internships and study-abroad programs. Students also participate in research symposiums and business competitions. Our caring faculty and staff strive to motivate and mentor students so that they succeed in their programs of study and graduate into productive and satisfying careers. Our alumni are influencing decisions in large and small companies, government agencies, non-profits and in their own entrepreneurial ventures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strategic Goals<\/mark><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goal 1: Provide clear, rigorous and relevant pathways for student success<\/mark><\/strong>
a. Review curriculum for all majors to ensure that it is current and forward-looking
b. Encourage and support faculty training and development in individual disciplines
c. Encourage faculty to develop expertise in all available technology to provide students with multiple avenues of learning<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goal 2: Provide a caring environment to students with diverse backgrounds and experiences<\/mark><\/strong>
a. Improve advising processes by formalizing and documenting faculty and student expectations
b. Expand recruitment efforts by faculty, students and alumni from the Department
c. Develop statewide relationships with high schools and community colleges
d. Continue to provide faculty student collaborations to support learning and development
e. Identify factors leading to the decline in student numbers.
f. Act on commitment from CFO to provide new classroom furnishings<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goal 3: Transform the lives of our students to help them achieve their goals<\/mark><\/strong>
a. Establish and strengthen relationships with alumni to encourage students to see possibilities for their own lives
b. Develop policies and practices for updating departmental website to keep all stakeholders informed of departmental goals and achievements
c. Strengthen partnerships with industry to create further career pathways for graduates
d. Strengthen existing and expand mentoring programs<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goal 4: Help shape the future of the global enterprises that our students will lead<\/mark><\/strong>
a. Build and sustain partnerships with our community
b. Increase participation by the Industry Advisory Board
c. Encourage students to study abroad and pursue fellowship opportunities
d. Encourage students to participate in internships or obtain transferable skills through employment or volunteer experiences<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Goal 5: Continue to have faculty with depth of knowledge and experience in their disciplines<\/mark><\/strong>
a. Create and implement a systematic faculty development plan that supports faculty in achieving their personal and Departmental goals
b. Encourage and support faculty to conduct relevant and high impact research
c. Develop mechanisms to secure funding to support research
